Poudre School District announced on Sept. 22 that eight of its students have been named semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. Five attend Fossil Ridge High School, two attend Fort Collins High School and one attends Timnath Middle-High School, according to the district’s release, which lists each student by name.
Superintendent Brian Kingsley put it plainly in the announcement: ‘When I say that Poudre School District is exceptional, I truly mean it,’ he said. ‘News like this showcases that fact.’ To the students, he added: ‘Congratulations to these incredible students for this achievement. This is a testament to your success, and everyone at PSD is proud.’
Why it matters
National Merit semifinalist standing is earned on the PSAT, and it puts these eight in the running for the scholarships awarded next spring. Five semifinalists from a single school in one year is the kind of number that says something about the teachers and the school as much as the students.
