Lilly Cory, the Town of Johnstown’s Water Efficiency Coordinator, has received the 2026 Alice Darilek Water Conservation Award from the Rocky Mountain Section of the American Water Works Association, according to a town announcement posted Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026. The town says she was honored during the section’s recent annual conference in Keystone.

According to the town, the award goes to a water conservation professional who shows exceptional performance in advancing efficient water use across the region. It is named for Alice Darilek, whose work in New Mexico, the town says, helped shape water conservation efforts across the Rocky Mountain West. The town describes Cory’s job as developing conservation programs, giving residents practical resources and education, and supporting long-term water planning for a growing community.

By the numbers

  • 2026: the award year, presented at the Rocky Mountain Section’s annual conference in Keystone
  • Level 3: the drought watering schedule the town lists as in effect on its 2026 watering page
  • 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.: the hours when the town says no watering is allowed
  • Oct. 15: the end of Johnstown’s outdoor watering season, per the town

Why it matters locally

Water is a daily question in a growing Northern Colorado town, and this is a regional honor for the staff member whose work residents see in their watering schedule and in the town’s conservation resources. The town’s announcement credits her with making water conservation understandable and practical for the community. The announcement does not list figures such as gallons saved.

How to take part

  • Follow the town’s watering schedule: even addresses on Mondays and Thursdays, odd addresses on Tuesdays and Fridays, and no watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. See the 2026 Watering Schedule.
  • After Thursday, Oct. 15, the town says residents may hand water trees and shrubs on Saturdays and Sundays.
