Science Studio is Denver Botanic Gardens’ guided classroom series for homeschool families at its York Street gardens in Denver, and each session pairs a science investigation with an art project. The first date this season is Monday, Nov. 16: Plant Fossils, in which kids ages 7-12 work as paleobotanists, studying fossils of ancient plants and using mineral paints to reproduce the patterns and colors they find. Sessions run at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and last 60 to 90 minutes, depending on how long your group spends on the art.
Two more follow: From Soil to Sculpture on Tuesday, Dec. 1 and From Plants to Paper on Dec. 14, at the same times. Each is $16 per child ($14 for members), and one adult per child attends free. The Gardens’ cancellation policy is strict: a 15 percent fee more than a week out, no refund inside a week.
