Jefferson County Public Library has named Diana, a volunteer at Lakewood Library, its Volunteer of the Month for October 2026. The library published a spotlight on her on Oct. 1 and identifies her by first name only.
Diana works with the Operations team at Lakewood, where she shelves adult and teen fiction and large print books. She tries to get the large print titles onto the shelves first, according to the spotlight. Her year and a half of service has included extended building closures and a new layout at the branch.
Two Operations staff members at Lakewood, a page and a supervisor, credit her in the spotlight with keeping large print items available to patrons and say they are glad to have her on the team. Outside the library, Diana volunteers in the clothing bank at the Action Center, where she sorts and restocks items, and with the Jefferson County Library Foundation. The spotlight also notes her taste for British cozy mysteries and Agatha Christie, and for local theater with friends.
Her work is the kind most patrons never see. The Operations crew handles the library’s physical materials, including books, audiobooks and DVDs, so that they are on the shelf when someone comes looking. The library takes adult and youth volunteers for jobs such as shelving books, preparing crafts and greeting patrons, with openings that vary by location.
