Arvada knitters are collecting handmade hats, blankets and $20 gift cards for crime and trauma victims through Dec. 3

Standley Lake Library’s Yarn and Needle Arts group is running its annual community drive from Oct. 1 through Dec. 3, this year for Victim Outreach Inc., which serves adult and child victims of crime and trauma across seven jurisdictions. Here is what the drive accepts and where to drop it off.

A hat someone made by hand says something a store-bought one cannot. A group of needleworkers at Standley Lake Library in Arvada is counting on that this fall.

The library’s Yarn and Needle Arts group opened its annual community drive on Oct. 1, Jefferson County Public Library announced, and it runs through Dec. 3. This year’s partner is Victim Outreach Inc., a nonprofit that provides essential items to victims of crime and trauma.

Who it helps

The library says Victim Outreach Inc. primarily serves adult and child victims who have reported to law enforcement across seven jurisdictions, and that it works in partnership with the Arvada Police Department. The organization also runs the Evergreen Resilience Center, which was created to support victims of the 2025 Evergreen High School shooting.

What the drive accepts

  • Warm things, handmade or store-bought: hats, scarves, cowls, shawls, socks, gloves, hand warmers and mittens
  • Washcloths, soap sacks with a bar of soap, blankets and quilts
  • $20 gift cards from King Soopers, Safeway, Target, Visa or Walmart
  • Store-bought feminine hygiene products and nonperishable, individually wrapped snacks
  • One rule for makers: no wool, because of possible allergies
