Arapahoe Libraries runs an Educator and Parent Support service that names homeschooling parents right next to classroom teachers. One request form covers three things: getting materials pulled for you, scheduling a visit with library staff for preschool through grade 12, and requesting library cards for a group of students.
The material request is the practical one for unit studies. Tell the library the titles and authors you want, or just describe the theme, and a librarian selects items, puts them on hold and lets you know when they are ready for pickup. The page asks you to allow two weeks. Pickup is at the Castlewood, Davies, Kelver, Koelbel, May, Sheridan, Smoky Hill or Southglenn library, or at a bookmobile stop. There is also an Educator Collection in the catalog, described as materials that support learning in the classroom and at home.
Visits should be requested at least three weeks in advance. The list of options includes a homeschool consultation, book talks, library resources and database training, customized book recommendations, storytimes, tech and maker activities, and parent workshops. The same page points to Storytime to Go kits and Browse Bundles for younger readers, Chromebooks for checkout, and HelpNow from Brainfuse, a live online tutoring service that covers elementary through advanced college prep.
