The Colorado Symphony’s Sunday matinee on Sept. 27 pairs one of the most demanding pieces in the piano repertoire with a soloist who has been playing it for decades. Garrick Ohlsson takes on Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 at Boettcher Concert Hall at 1 p.m., with Rune Bergmann conducting. The rest of the program is Nordic: Svendsen’s Norwegian Artists’ Carnival and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 1.
Tickets run $20 to $124 before fees, and the symphony points to Mezzanine seats under $26 for anyone who wants the cheap way in. A pre-concert Prelude and a post-show Talkback are listed for this performance, which makes the afternoon a good first symphony outing for a curious teenager.
