Three tenor saxophone giants get a big-band salute in Arvada next weekend. The Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra plays ‘The Three Tenors: Trane, Rollins, and Getz’ on the Arvada Center’s Main Stage on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m.
The program celebrates John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Stan Getz, and the Arvada Center notes that it marks Coltrane’s centennial. The set list runs from Coltrane’s ‘Impressions’ to selections from the 1962 album ‘Big Band Bossa Nova,’ with vocalist Hannah Rodriguez featured. The night closes with Rollins’ ‘Tenor Madness,’ and saxophonists in the audience are invited to bring their horns and play along on that last tune.
