‘The Who’s TOMMY’ plays the Buell Theatre for three days, Friday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 18. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts says composer Pete Townshend and original director Des McAnuff are reexamining the classic story for today. It follows Tommy Walker, a boy who withdraws into himself after seeing his father shoot a rival, and who goes from quiet adolescent to celebrity.
Tickets are listed at $47 to $148, a base price that includes Denver’s 10 percent seat tax, with an 18 percent service fee added on top. The show runs about 1 hour and 40 minutes with no intermission. DCPA recommends it for ages 16 and older. Its advisory says the story includes depictions of bullying, substance abuse and scenes of war, and that the production includes loud music, multiple gunshots, theatrical haze, and strobe and flashing light effects.
