Eastern Screech Owls are small, well camouflaged and easy to walk right past, which is the point of this Saturday outing. On Oct. 24, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m., City of Fort Collins Natural Areas volunteer naturalists lead What a Hoot! The (Screech) Owls Among Us, a short hike at McMurray Natural Area about the owls that live there, their owl relatives, and how owls connect to human health and well-being and to the wider environment.
The program is free. Meet at the kiosk near the parking lot on Hemlock Street. The city asks participants to register through its engage calendar, and the page does not list an age limit, so it reads as a family-friendly nature walk and a ready-made homeschool field trip for a weekend afternoon. Late October dusk arrives during the second hour, so bring a layer and a flashlight for the walk back.
