A doctor’s advice usually comes in an exam room. In Fort Collins, it now also comes with a walk. Banner Health has launched a local chapter of Walk with a Doc, with free walks on the first Saturday of every month at 9 a.m. at the Fort Collins Senior Center.

Each walk opens with a 10- to 15-minute talk on a current health topic from a Banner Health physician or provider. After that, everyone walks at their own pace for the rest of the hour. Banner says the walks are free and open to everyone, whatever their age or fitness level, and no registration is required.

Who is behind it

Banner credits Lynn Bellmore, MD, a Banner family medicine doctor, with leading the local effort. The health system’s Sept. 24 announcement listed the Oct. 3 walk with Audrey Klawiter, DO, a Banner family medicine physician, speaking on breast health and preventive care.

Walk with a Doc is a nonprofit founded in 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio.
