Bear Creek Lake Park, Lakewood: by-request nature programs for homeschools, preschool through high school (program cost not listed)

Illustration of two women gardening together outdoors with mountains behind

Lakewood Parks runs educational nature programs out of Bear Creek Lake Park, and the city names homeschools among the groups that can request one, along with schools, preschools, daycares and scout troops. You pick a topic, a date and time, and a place. Most programs can be held at a location you choose, so a co-op can meet at the park or ask for a visit closer to home.

Topics are sorted by age. Early childhood and kindergarten choices include Seasonal Shifts, Discovering Senses, Cycles of Life and Animal Homes. Grades 1-5 can choose from Nature’s Engineer, Beautiful Bats, Build a Raptor and Amphibian: Frogs vs. Toads, among others. Grades 5-8 have Animal Signs, Circle of Life and Where’s the Water?, and high school groups can book Careers in the Outdoors or Fire Ecology. A set of all-ages programs covers topics such as Animal Adaptations, Outdoor Survival and Nature’s Bills and Beaks. The city’s page does not list a price, a program length or a group size, so ask about all three when you send the request.
