Four Mile Historic Park, the homestead site at 715 S. Forest St. in Denver, treats homeschool families as a category of their own. Its school-programs page asks, in its words, ‘Homeschooling Family?’ and offers to let the park’s education team design a field trip for you. Custom field trips run Monday through Thursday and are booked by phone at 720-865-0814, by email at education@fourmilepark.org or through the online form on the page.
The park also runs a recurring ‘Homeschool on the Homestead’ series. The most recent session, ‘Big Big Bugs’ on Sept. 16, invited kids to come learn about the multitude of insects that call Four Mile home, including the oversized temporary residents of this year’s Bright Nights installation; the page says fall dates are coming soon. Other programs on the menu include ‘Wagon Wheels,’ in which children experience the adventures and hardships of covered wagon life in the 1860s (offered only April 19 through May 20, 2027), and a farm-chores program that leads students through activities they would have done on their farm during the 1800s. Traveling trunks such as ‘Daily Life on a 1859 Homestead’ bring the lesson to you.
