The Littleton Museum is one of the best free history field trips on the Front Range because it is not just galleries: two outdoor living-history farms, an 1860s homestead and an 1890s farm, run with costumed interpreters and live animals, so kids see how a Colorado family actually worked, cooked and kept livestock. General admission is free. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last entry 4:30), closed Mondays and holidays, with reduced hours on some holiday dates.
Homeschool groups are welcome. Booked field trips cost $2 per attendee for groups outside Littleton Public Schools (LPS and Title I groups are free), with a cap of 80 students a day; reserve through fieldtripcalendar@LittletonCo.gov or 303-795-3711. Families can also just show up. No food or drink is allowed on the farm sites or in the museum, so plan lunch elsewhere.
