The Wheat Ridge Historical Society opens its Historical Park on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The society says to stop by for a guided tour of the buildings, $5 for adults and $2 for kids, and its Events page describes tours as provided with cash or check donations of at least $2 to $5 per person. The park’s page lists the White Family Home, the first post office, the Soddy (a sod house), a log cabin, the Baugh House, an implement shed and a water tower.
The society dates the sod house to around 1886 and says it earned its national historic designation as the oldest house built of tall prairie grass this close to the mountains. Its Baugh House page describes a log cabin built in 1859 inside a later farmhouse. The society’s site does not mention homeschool or school programs. It does take group bookings: for groups of 10 or more, it says to call 303-421-9111 to book a tour.
