Wild Bear Nature Center in Nederland builds custom nature programs for groups and names the homeschool community among them, next to school groups, scouts and families. Programs can meet at Mud Lake in Nederland, at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, or at a location you pick. Wild Bear says all of its programs are aligned with Colorado Academic Standards and touch science, language arts, math and social studies.
The posted rate is $150 an hour for up to 30 people, with $5 more per student for groups over 30. A co-op that fills all 30 spots pays $5 a person for an hour. Topics for Pre-K through adults include Mud Lake Ecology, Tracking Colorado’s Wildlife, The Secret Life of Owls, Montane Birding and Fabulous Fungi. Narrower age bands apply to Homes and Habitats (K-3), Fire Ecology (grades 3-8), Survival Skills (grades 4-12) and Snow School, a snowshoe program for grades 2-8. If Wild Bear travels to you and the round trip is more than 40 miles, a travel fee of 76 cents a mile applies.
