The Colorado Symphony gives the premiere of Joe Hisaishi’s Concerto for Orchestra on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Boettcher Concert Hall. The orchestra co-commissioned the piece, which runs about 45 minutes in five movements. Hisaishi was scheduled to conduct, but the symphony says he is unable to travel to Denver because of illness, so Deanna Tham leads both performances. Ticket holders do not need to do anything.
The program opens with David Lang’s Mountain and Steve Reich’s Music for Ensemble and Orchestra before the Hisaishi concerto. Tickets are $20 to $124 plus fees and taxes, and the symphony notes that prices can rise as the date approaches. The same program plays again Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
