Cheese Importers is a family business with a retail store at 103 Main St. in Longmont. Its website says founders Linda and Lyman White met aboard the Queen Elizabeth on the way to Europe, met up again in Paris and found they shared a love of good food. Their plan, according to the site, was to hand-select imported and domestic cheese and deliver it to shops, cafes and co-ops along the Front Range.
The company still runs a wholesale division that serves restaurants and grocers. The Longmont store is the part that is open to the public.
What they do
The store’s cheese and charcuterie cooler holds more than 500 international and local cheeses, according to the site. The rest of the store is laid out in sections: an olive bar, a kitchenware area, a corner of pasta, oils and textiles from Italy, goods and gifts from Provence, a children’s corner with toys, games, books and craft supplies, and a section of fragrances and antiques.
