Echter’s Nursery & Garden Center has been growing plants in Arvada since 1959. That year, according to its website, brothers Bob and Jim Echter bought a small greenhouse operation in the city. They started out growing carnations for the wholesale flower market, and in 1978 Echter’s opened to the public as a retail garden center.

More than six decades on, the site says, members of the Echter family still work together at the garden center every day.

What they do

Echter’s is a nursery, greenhouse and garden center in one. The site says many of its flowers are grown on site and that the plants and products it carries are chosen for Colorado’s climate. The plant side covers indoor plants, annuals, perennials, roses, trees, shrubs, seeds, bulbs and edible plants.

The store also stocks soils and amendments, mulch, tools, pottery and containers, patio furniture, garden decor and birding supplies, and it offers custom planting and delivery.
