Icon of a creative studio

Spinster Sisters Co. is a Golden soap and skin care maker that began with a single batch of soap. The company’s own timeline says founder Kelly Perkins made her first natural soap in 1993 and gave it to family and friends over the holidays. She and her sister then sold her products at a craft fair and named the booth Spinster Sisters, a nod to singlehood and sisterhood. Perkins later married, the timeline notes, and kept the name anyway.

It stayed a market business for years. By 2011, the site says, Perkins was selling at dozens of Colorado markets and had started offering her products to wholesalers, and in 2012 she left a corporate travel job to run the company full time from her basement. In 2014 Spinster Sisters moved into its first branded shop and production space in historic downtown Golden. In 2017 it moved again, ending up in a larger, renewable energy powered building in Golden that the company calls its Microsoapery.

What they do

Spinster Sisters makes plant-based personal care products: soap, skin care, hair care, lotions, bath bombs, shower steamers and soy candles, plus a zero plastic line. The products are made and orders are packed at the Microsoapery in south Golden. The timeline also records a 2020 detour into hand sanitizer during the pandemic.
