Magill’s World of Ice Cream has been a Lakewood ice cream shop since 1981. Its website says founders Bob and Margaret Magill had worked in the ice cream business and moved to Colorado to open a shop of their own, which they ran for 17 years before retiring.
The Fehr family owned the shop from 1998 to 2003, according to the site. That year it was bought by Tom Kinney, an employee of five years who made ice cream, scooped it and worked on the wholesale side. The site says Kinney was born and raised in Lakewood and was 20 years old when he bought the business.
What they do
Magill’s makes its ice cream on site. Under Kinney, the site says, the shop expanded its customer seating and opened a production creamery on site, where ice cream is still made every day. Along with scoops at the counter, the shop takes custom cake orders and sells its ice cream wholesale.
